Blogging can be used to promote scientific topics and engage audience members in public research, knowledge, and discussion. Scientific blogs are considered a form of social media, because they allow users to interact and find people with similar interests. Scientific bloggers use several strategies to communicate their findings and engage a diverse array of audience members. Successful blogger frame content for both expert and non-specialist audiences, using comparisons and metaphors, definitions or elaboration of terms, paraphrases, and examples.

The blog, STEM Activities for Kids, is an example of how blogs can be used to communicate science to children.
