Photoshop is a software tool that is used to edit images. Adobe Photoshop 2021 allows its users to enhance and alter photos, bringing them to life. During this course, I strengthened my photoshop skills as I learned about specific image editing tools and put this knowledge into action by editing the three images below.

Photoshop Project #1

I used Adobe Photoshop 2021 to transform this basic landscape image into something far more. To begin, I added the sun into the image using the elliptical marquee tool and filled it with an orange color. Next, I used the “multiply” layer tool to blend the orange sun into the colors of the landscape beneath it. Next, I used the quick selection tool to facilitate layer masks. I used a layer mask to replace the dull sky in the first image to one with dramatic clouds. Following this, I used the gradient tool to gradually blend the artwork in the rest of the design. To add text to my design and change the font, I used the horizontal type tool. Then I added layer style effects to achieve the pop in the text. To make the stars, I used the custom shape tool. Finally, I added a vector graphic (a logo) that was made in Adobe Illustrator.

Photoshop Project #2

I used Adobe Photoshop 2021 again to polish this photograph taken in Norway. First, I used the crop tool to improve the composition of the photo and the straighten tool to straighten the photo. Next, I added an adjustment layer to adjust the brightness and contrast of the photo. To boost the colors, I added a hue/saturation adjustment layer and increased the saturation to +45. Since the grassy area and a few of the houses looked a little too vibrant after that, I used a layer mask to hide the saturation in these areas. To remove a few small objects from the photograph, including cows and distracting poles, I used the spot healing brush tool. To remove a larger item, a red roof, I used the patch tool. I used the blur gallery tilt-shift filter to blur the top and bottom of the photograph, making the homes the focus of the photo. Finally, I used the smart sharpen filter to emphasize the edges of the image.

Photoshop Project #3

The photograph on the left was taken on April 14, 2019 moments after my water polo team and I beat UCLA in the league championship at their home pool. It was a close game, but we pulled out the victory with a score of 4-2. Winning our division earned us a spot at nationals, allowing us to travel to Notre Dame in May where we placed third in the nation. I thought this would be a great photo to edit, because I was able to add context and really make my team the centerpiece of the photo. First, to enhance the quality, I added an adjustment layer which allowed me to adjust the brightness and contrast of the photo. After that, I used the spot healing brush tool to remove the backpack sitting on the pool deck on the left side of the photo. Next, I used the patch tool to remove the 8’’-0’ mark on the right side of the pool. To add context to the photo, I used the rectangle tool to build a rectangle and then filled it in with a Cal Poly green color. I then added a textbox on top of the rectangle and wrote “Pacific Coast League Champions 2019.” Finally, I added the Cal Poly Logo to the image to represent our team and the pride we felt winning this championship as Cal Poly Mustangs.
